The London Supply Group Foundation, with the support of the Ministry of Health of the Province of Misiones, Hospital Garrahan de Buenos Aires and a group of remarkable professionals from the public and private sectors, launched Supersanitos 2 (Superhealthy 2).
The campaign took place between 3 October and 5 October in the Elementary School Escuela Primaria N° 875 “Doña Mercedes García de Taratuty”, where the classrooms were turned into medical rooms for three days to examine children without interrupting their lessons. The 500 students that attend the Elementary School received paediatric, ophthalmological and audiometric examinations. In addition, there was a mobile vaccination clinic set up to assure the immunization of children in compliance with the vaccination schedule and parents were also delivered informative talks on dental health.
The following Paediatricians were part of Supersanitos 2: José Alfíe, Guillermo Goldfarb, Marcelo Andrade, Gloria Schmidete, Celeste Savignano, Analía Cocco, Rogelia Arzamendia and Luciana Borba together with the Ophthalmologists Juan Terán, José González del Cerro, Viviana Abudi y María Fernanda Corsi and Speech Therapists Valeria Gómez, Carolina Pedroso and Micaela Ruzak.
The campaign was extremely successful; all the examinations were conducted in accordance with the scheduled appointments and the students visited the medical rooms without inconveniences. Unfortunately, we have identified several cases that will require further control and attention, but thanks to Supersanitos 2, those cases can be taken care of.
This set up that has been conducted for a second time, aims at providing prompt medical care to children coming from humble families and that, in the majority of the cases, had never been examined before. Our theme is “giving more where there is less” and, in this case, it was connected to managing an interdisciplinary work putting together the private and public sectors to improve the health of children with limited resources: working on providing equal opportunities to everybody.
